Human needs can be classified into 5 levels from more to less basic, forming the famous pyramid. Once the most basic needs are met, we can move on to the next. Thus, our goals will vary depending on our situation at all times. Here are some basic tenets of the theory: Unmet needs influence people’s behavior. Needs already satisfied do not generate behaviors. As we manage to satisfy basic needs, those of a higher order gradually appear, but not all individuals feel the need to reach the highest level of the pyramid. The most basic needs always prevail over the superior ones. To satisfy basic needs, the motivational cycle required is relatively short. Instead, the needs that are at higher levels of the pyramid require longer cycles.
